Translation of the interview
„Blick“ March 6, 2008, Page 3 „A God of Vengeance“ Personal disappointment drove the Ruetli-Bomber, says Stefan Vetter (photo). Chief of Centre specializing in Catastrophe and Defence Psychiatry at the university of Zurich. Q: Why does a young man want to desperately join the army? Stefan Vetter: The answer lies in the personality. This person only feels strong and masculine when he can use a weapon. He thinks that he is only a real man if he serves the military. The uniform makes him feel proud. Q: How would you describe this Ruetli-Bomber‘s character? A: Probably this man has an inferiority problem. He doesn‘t feel equal, longs desperately for attention. Q: It would have required a Swiss passport to join the army. Yet his application was denied. A: That could have caused a enormous disappointment in this man. Typically he will build up an enormous amount of hate. That can make him turn violent under those circumstances. It can end in a shooting rampage - or in a bombing, like the one on August 1st. Q: What does he hope to gain with such a bombing? A: He certainly wants to draw public attention. Suddenly he is noticed, all of Switzerland knows about him. He feels like a god of vengeance, almighty. Q: Why does he attack the people, whom he wants to belong to? A: On one hand he would like to be one of them. On the other hand his disappointment caused such a hatred towards those who denied his wish. In his view the authorities are responsible if innocent people are hurt. |
What makes the interview highly questionable, is the fact that Dr. Vetter had not been assigned to the case in anyway. Nor had he ever been in contact with the suspect in any way. Yet he answered the questions of the interviewer, making it appear as if the suspect had already been found guilty in a court of law.
